Summary:
Lustig, [2002] has written a sort of review about John F. Kavanaugh's " Who Count as Persons? Human Identity and the Ethics of Killing" [Georgetown University Press] in which he accepts Kavanaugh's belief that the fetus is a person. The author applauds his focus on focus on moral dilemmas through the lens of anthropological issues. Moral debates are such that they get caught in a ethical and political domain losing much of their value. The focal theme of the article is answering the question of What it means to be human and then elaborating on it to create a ethical debate on terms of abortion. Religious beliefs and scientific facts are covered to make the argument more plausible.

Analysis
Abortion is something that makes everyone think and feel about the unborn life in the womb being killed. The innocence and the helplessness of the unborn child is what makes the debate so fierce as people strive to protect what they consider is the future of the world.
Most people argue against abortion not because they want to oppress woman rather, because they believe that the fetus has the right to see the next day. The article that I read suggested that the debate is a slippery slope of morals, which is made political. Andrew [2002] refers to a book written on the subject and presents that the fetus is not a potential person but a person with potentials and that we would deliberately kill that potential horrifies me. Yet, women get raped, child abuse runs rampant and teenagers are left to take care of babies alone. That’s another social problem and twists the debate into a vicious cycle. So while I can agree with the author when he says that abortion is intentional killing. I cannot but believe that the right to choose must lie with the woman for there are already too many unloved children in our society living below the level of poverty.
